A Caprese sandwich is a sandwich of simplicity. You could say that it is the Italian BMT. Basil, Mozarella & Tomato. All that you NEED are four ingredients:
A dense bread such as chiabatta or focaccia
Sliced Tomato (Beefsteak would work best)
Fresh Mozzarella, sliced
Fresh Basil
If you are like me, and prefer not to eat my sandwiches dry, try making the sandwich with a
Pesto or a Basil Aoili. This is great for reinforcing the basil. While it isn't necessary, I am of the belief that you really can't have too much basil. And do yourself a favor; use fresh ingredients. Don't try to convince yourself that it is okay to use the pre-shredded bag of processed mozzarella cheese that you can buy for $.99 at any grocery store in America.
